How big are your replication shares?

We have 5 replication shares spread out among 5 offices. THey seem to be about 200GB in size, looking at my Kace admin console it seems we have 221GB space used for patching. We keep having to extend the virtual hard drive on our replication servers because they keep filling up, they have seemed to stop now that replication is done.

I am just wondering is 200GB seems high for replication, does replication copy every single thing over that is on the K1000 box to the replication?

Answer Summary:
Limit to patching labels or detect for missing patches (since 5.4) This will cause a much smaller footprint

All you use for patching on your main box is replicated.

Also your agents and Dell Patching (if applicable)

Indeed 200GB are BIG. Please check if you _REALLY_ need all these patches and modify if nessesary your patching labels

  • If you aren't at 5.4 SP1/5.4.76847 already, you might also consider upgrading as that version adds some features to help regulate your patch size volume in general. - jknox 11 years ago
  • I had it set to download all patches. Just switched it to only download patches for certain labels...this should help! - areiner 11 years ago
    • correct. You can use "Patches detected as missing" when updated to 5.4SP1. Also you can delete unused patches automatic. This will also affect the repl shares. - Nico_K 11 years ago
  • I did not turn on the Patches detected as missing, i just made a label(s) for what i want download and told the k1000 to download those. Here are my settings. If i did this right, it should only download "All OS Security Critical Patches" http://imgur.com/a/Y1Nwu - areiner 11 years ago
    • looks good. delete unused patches after 1 day is a bit aggressive, esp. if you patch not daily ;) - Nico_K 11 years ago
  • I did, it was a typo lol. I am confused about the difference between "Download patches from selected Labels" under patch subscription and them "All subscribed Patches" in patch download settings. Are you able to clarify why this will only download the patch label patches but not everything? - areiner 11 years ago
