Best Way to Deploy the Kace 1000 Agent to Linux and Mac computers from the Kace Server

I am new to the Kace Tool and will not be able to have Jump start training until mid-June. Can give me the elementary answer to pushing the Kace tool to Mac and Linux workstations. Do i have to create my own agent?

If your machines have SSH logins enabled then you can deploy the agent through provisioning. Look under Settings, Provisioning.

For your MacOS machines you can also deploy using Apple Remote Desktop if you have that setup. Push the package to install it and then run this command to set the hostname:
/Library/Application\ Support/Dell/KACE/bin/AMPTools set host=kacehostname.domain.tld

I don't manage any Linux computers but I imagine there is a similar AMPTools command that you can use.

Unfortunately if you don't havre remote ssh access you may need to install the Agent manually. But, once you do, you will have access to change things (like create an admin account) through scripts etc. from the K1000.

  • Thanks for the response. I was hoping to just be able to do a discover so i can give management a count of Linux machines on the network - tmac0701 8 years ago
    • Well, you can discover them, but if you don't have ssh turned on there isn't a way to install the agent without admin privileges.
